Autostrada Biennale was founded in 2014 by Leutrim Fishekqiu, Vatra Abrashi, and Barış Karamuço as the first contemporary art institution in Prizren, Kosovo. From the outset, it was imagined as a bridge — linking people, places, and ideas through the language of contemporary art. At its core lies the conviction that art can open paths for dialogue, inspire new perspectives, and bring communities together.

Today, Autostrada Biennale moves on two interconnected paths:

Autostrada Biennale
An international contemporary art exhibition, held every two years since 2017, invites artists, curators, and thinkers from around the world to engage with Prizren’s unique history and present. Each edition fosters dialogue between local communities and global practices, exploring how art speaks to shared challenges and aspirations. 6th Edition, opening 10th July 2027, will be curated by Lucia Pietroiusti. ,

Autostrada Hangar – Center for Contemporary Art
Since 2021, Autostrada Hangar has served as the organisation’s permanent home: an open space for education, production, and exhibition, located within the former German KFOR military base — now the Innovation and Training Park (ITP) Prizren.

The Autostrada Hangar has been transformed from Autostrada Biennale into a place where art and community meet.

Autostrada Hangar’s facilities include:
– Production workshops for metal, wood, textile,
– Artist residency spaces,
– Professional storage for contemporary artworks,
– Vegetarian kitchen designed for shared meals and public programs,
– Library and shop offering resources and publications,
– Welcoming spaces for performances, talks, public programs and exhibitions.
